Northampton Exhaust Repair
Car exhausts are an incredibly important component of your vehicle and it can be a bit daunting if you think yours may be in need of repair. As with most things though, it is much better, and less expensive to put right early on before other parts of the vehicle become affected, or worst case scenario, the whole exhaust system needs replacing.
5 Early signs that your exhaust may need attention are:
Excessive Noise – Any increase in noise could indicate a serious issue and should be checked immediately by one of our qualified mechanics.
Rattling and Knocking Noise – A rattling and knocking noise coming from the exhaust area could mean your catalytic converter is failing. Usually the most expensive part of the exhaust to replace, but could it could equally be a loose heat shield or a worn rubber mount.
Leaks – There is the potential for noxious gasses to build up in the interior of the car if there is a hole in your exhaust. If the hole is large, you may also hear a low rumbling with the engine on. Look out for pools of liquid beneath the car, and get it checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.
Fuel Consumption – If your exhaust is damaged, it will have to work harder to function. This will result in your car using more fuel than usual. If you notice that you are using more than usual it is a good idea to get your exhaust checked.
Engine Management Light Displayed – This can be caused by a blowing exhaust or a faulty exhaust oxygen sensor or catalyst. It is imperative that these are checked immediately.
